About Fort Lauderdale
As the county seat of Broward County, this beautiful city is home to upwards of 1.8+ million residents. The city is named after multiple forts built during the Second Seminole War, all named Fort Lauderdale. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, along Fort Lauderdale Beach, offers camping, trails and canoeing, while swimmers can take advantage of the historic Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex at the International Swimming Hall of Fame, open to all residents. Fort Lauderdale residents support all the Miami and Florida professional teams: baseball's Marlins, football's Dolphins, and basketball's Heat play in nearby Miami-Dade County, while hockey's Florida Panthers play in Sunrise, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale.
